Don't be mean by Lily U

Kia Ora readers and welcome back to my blog ! Today I'll be doing a blogpost about Mean, Median and mode. It's pretty difficult to explain because it's three different topics that has to do with maths. I will be explaining about what is a Mean, Mode & Median, but first I'll be explaining about what mean is.

Mean is about finding the average score. You do this by adding up the numbers and then dividing by the amount of numbers that you have added. it (2 + 11 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 25  ÷ 5 = 5).

Median is all about the middle number for example 3 2 1 and 2 is the median because it's the number in the middle. A hint is to always ensure that you arrange the scores either in ascending of descending order. If you don't do this then you just might record the 'wrong number' as the median. Another point to note is that if you have an even data set, for example 1 2 3 4, then you'll add 2 + 3 = 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 and that's how you figure out the median when it's an even or odd set of scores.

Mode is when you're looking for the number/s that are repeated more than once. For example 6 7 7 8 5, the mode is 7 because it has been repeated more than once, like twice. A data set can have more than one mode. However, if no number repeats itself, then there is NO MODE. I hope to create a DLO or screencastify my thoughts on a follow-up blog post, so keep your eyes "peeled"

Anyways Hope you've learnt more about Mean, Median & Mode!

Boxing Reflection by George

On Friday, 7 of August 2020, room 9 got to do some boxing practice with coach Pat. So first she spoke through what we have to do in boxing Next we had to get into pairs and stand in two lines with our partners.

Thereafter, we went into our session practice round with coach Pat. The aim was get into the right formation. She also said to get into your wall and how to do this. Basically you have to bend your body low and hard because if you're ever in a fight it would be your defence that is why it is called the wall.

For the next step, she taught us the jab/cross. This is how you do jam/cross. It still includes the wall, jab is when you use your weakest hand E:G if my right leg is behind it would be my left hand that jabs. Cross would be the opposite of jab which is my right. There is a twist if you do cross, you twist your body the same way that your hand goes.

Finally, we got into a game called knee tag. How do you play knee tag? So you get a partner and  try to tag their knee. If you or your partner tag one another's knee then you would have to do a star jump,Then Pat finished off the boxing lesson with a speech.

If you like this plz leave a comment, and if you ever get to do these stuff  then send it to your friends.

πŸ₯ŠBoxing with Pat Pt. 1πŸ₯Š by Falakika

Hello viewers, today my class had our first session of kiwi-sport which was Boxing. Our coach was Pat, she taught us how to jab, cross, catch a punch and a posture called the wall. She read to us 3 commandments that we need to follow in order to continue learning boxing.

The 3 commandments are:

RESPECT

I will have respect for myself, my coach, my peers and the sport of boxing.

DISCIPLINE

I will have the discipline to turn to every boxing session and give my 100%

SAFETY

I will not cause harm to others and only practice boxing in a safe environment under the guidance of a coach.

I really enjoyed today's session, can't wait for the next one.

I hope you enjoy, Goodbye!

Getting to grips with stats by George

WALA: Statistics

Before we did the activity, we had a discussion about what mean, median, range and mode was about. We did this as a revision exercise to consolidate new concepts, clarify our understanding and to clear up any confusion.

I made a short digital learning object below to share my learning. Actually I found it online but why reinvent the wheel right. It's all about working smarter............I am looking forward to learning more about how to analyse data next week and make inferences based on a given data set

Day and Night by Metui

Do you know how Day & Night happens? Well, I know how it happens. According to my research and information that I’ve summarised and found that...

The Sun is the biggest planet in the Solar System and is also the biggest star. It’s also in the middle of the Solar System which means the Earth is the third-closest to the Sun. Our planet orbits around the Sun in order for us to get heat and sunlight - we also get Day time because of the Sun. The Earth takes 12 hours to orbit the Sun that’s why we have 12 hours for Day - and also plus night which equals 24 hours altogether.

The Moon is the fifth-largest Moon in the Solar system. It’s the ONLY natural permanent satellite that the Earth has. The light from the Moon isn’t actually from the Moon. How it happens is that the light from the Sun reflects on to the Moon which leads to us getting light during night time. Some people think that the Moon just creates its own light when really, the Sun is just reflecting its light on to the Moon.

Moving on, the Earth rotates around the Sun. The Earth rotates on its axis and as it rotates around the Sun and also around itself, it turns one side of the globe to the Sun, and the other side away from the Sun which causes it to be night time. For example, since New Zealand and America are on opposite sides of the world - in America, it is night time while here in NZ, it’s day time. That’s how we have Day & Night time.

By now, you will understand the idea of how night and day happens. It is because of the position of the Earth, Sun and Moon!

DNA explained by Lily

Kia ora readers and welcome back to my blog ! Today I'll be blogging about Genomics which is our inquiry topic that we've been focusing on this term. It's quite challenging to unpack but I am excited to find out more about genomics!

What is DNA ?
Your DNA  is like an instruction book. It contains the instructions for living. It contains the instructions for living things like you to develop, grow and function. Variations in DNA instructions can make a difference to how a living being looks, develops, or responds to its environment.

What is a Genome? The complete set of a living beings DNA instruction is called a genome.  Our human genetic  instructions, crammed into our cells, are made up of more than 6000 Million DNA letters that are divided across 46   chromosomes that we inherit   from our  parents  23 from our mother and 23 from our father.

And that is all the information I have today ! Thanks for reading Click here to find out more  about what Genomes are about !!! Make sure  to check out more of my blogs and Stay tune for the next part!
