Today we learned about Biosecurity we read about it then we watched a video then after that we had to write a summary about it then put it in a fake newspaper but I couldn't put it on the blog for some reason.
What is Biosecurity?
Biosecurity, what is Biosecurity well Biosecurity is a type of security but it’s not your normal security that you would find at a bar, Biosecurity is a security that protects your environment from biological threats like a disease. New Zealand is taking action to prevent unwanted organisms from harming the economy, natural biodiversity, or the health of the New Zealand public. The Department of Conservation affirms “Biosecurity is about keeping New Zealand is free of unwanted organisms and for controlling, handling or exterminating them should they arrive in the country, to prevent or decrease any harm, and defend and protect the land, water, industry, and people of New Zealand". Why is Biosecurity important, Biosecurity is critical because it stops unwanted organisms from coming into our country, unwanted organisms are dangerous because they could form a disease. Types of diseases that could and have already come into NZ are foot and mouth disease and mad cow disease. Biosecurity doesn’t only stop diseases it also stops pests such as possums, goats, deer, wallabies, rabbits, ferrets, stoats, and weasels, but it doesn’t stop there Biosecurity is trying to keep dangerous plants out too like Scrambling lily or Devil’s tail.
