The Craft of Wisdom

This week for Cybersmart we had a serious discussion about 'The Power of Words'. We

  • discussed words/phrases that are commonly used to hurt a person online.
  • discussed reasons of why people hurt others online through the power of words.
  • role played different scenarios related to 'the power of words' and discussed positive solutions to these situations.
We had to create a DLO of a situation that relates to hurting others through the power of words and show possible solutions.

We enjoyed this lesson as it raised some in-depth discussions and questions about cyberbully and how people use mean words to communicate and hurt others online. It's important that we are taught some important strategies on how to respond to people when they are writing mean things about us or to us online.

This is a cybersmart lesson that will continue on next week and we look forward to the second part of this lesson - THE POWER OF WORDS.

Reflective Blogging by Lily

Ciao readers and welcome back to my blog ! Today I'm doing a blog comment on one of my friends from Room 8  !  I'm doing blog comments on other students because it helps them develop more of their learning also to help me become a better cymber smart learner.

As you can see I've chosen Hope to blog comment tonight, well the reason why I chose Hope is because she is a very Kind and Energetic even the Deputy Head girl. She is also a very good friend of mines anyways lets being ! I went through Hope's amazing blog and I've saw a perfect post that I could comment on ! Anyways here is my comment I've gave her
I've commented on her Writing- Stuck in a deserted island ! Some tips for her was to make sure that her read make sense but anyways she did a fantastic job writing a story and there is going to be part 2, so I'm very excited to see more she can write.
If you want to check hope's blog

📘BODMAS - The Order of Operations📘

IALT: Blog about Algebraic Computations

Yesterday for Maths, Room 9 learned about BODMAS which is an acronym for:

BODMAS Explained - Order Of Mathematical Operations

BODMAS is a Mathematical Operation that you would use to solve an equation. Here is an example of a BODMAS question:

6 - ( 9 - 2) + 3 x 6

Before learning about BODMAS I always thought that you simply solve the question in the order that it is presented. But then I discovered the BODMAS principles and how you should apply it when solving equations. This is how I would normally solve the question before I learned about BODMAS:

6 - 9

But since I couldn't do that I would get stuck in the equation and the answer would've been wrong. After learning about BODMAS and what it is, this is how I would solve the problem:
6 - ( 9 - 2) + 3 x 6
Simplify:
6 - 7 + 3x6
6 - 7 + 18
6 - 7 + 18
24 - 7
= 17

I really enjoy learning about BODMAS because it teaches me how to solve various equations using multiple operations. I can't wait to learn more about BODMAS!
Question of the blog: Have you ever learned about BODMAS? How has it helped you in your Mathematical Learning?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feedforward! Bye :)

Growth Mindset Quote by Room 9

Michelle Obama: A Life,' by Peter Slevin - The New York Times“One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals. And so when I hear about negative and false attacks, I really don’t invest any energy in them, because I know who I am.”

By Michelle Obama

I really like that quote because I as a person always tends to
get distracted. When I first heard this quote I really didn't know what it meant. But when I broke it up into pieces and reconstructed I knew what it meant.

Exploring Fractions with Mr J💪

How to divide fractionsToday it was back to the "drawing board" during our hangout session with Mr Janse. He really makes learning maths fun and inspires us to strive for greater heights. "Practise makes permanent" he says.

We started the session with a normal dad joke or brain teaser.  Today is was 3 out of every 2 people struggle with fractions. If you don't get it then you're one of those three people.

I decided to use google drawing to show my understanding of what we learnt today. I hope that you understand my strategy that I used to solve the problem. Here goes nothing team..........

I welcome any feedback or feedforward about my blog post! Did you find this helpful and easy to follow?
