The Earthquake Beast

The Kia Manawanui syndicate studied different natural disasters around the South Pacific in Term 2. One of our writing tasks was to describe the causes and the effects of a natural disaster through poetic writing.
Here is a poem written by Constance:

THE EARTHQUAKE BEAST

When the faultline breaks, the tectonic plates move.

Awakening the beast, as it gets ready to groove.

Rattle, rumble

Rush and ROAR!

Drop, cover, and hold to the floor.

Tremble, troubles

Shock and shake

The beast is too groovy, it caused an earthquake.

There are cracks on the road, we have nowhere to go

The buildings have collapsed, all in a row.

People are running, people are screaming,

Hoping they’ll survive, as much as they are believing.

The earthquake has stopped, and majority people are alive,

All screaming in happiness, because they’ve survived.

They are all relieved as the beast fell asleep,

Now we are waiting for the rescue team.

When they arrive, they start helping us all,

Rebuilding buildings, to help a bit more.

We’ve experienced enough and hope it was the last

As some of our families couldn’t risk it all.

This is the DLO that we used to help us start the crafting of our poem.

T.E.A.M

We kick started the year by building our class culture that focuses on strengthening the school values and the key competencies. Some students in the Kia Manawanui syndicate put together a chant called T.E.A.M which helped us show the school values and the key competencies at Camp Raglan in Term 2. No only has this chant helped us show T.E.A.M at camp but it has also helped continue to build a positive class culture throughout the year. 

How our T.E.A.M chant was created

Two weeks before camp we were required to work as a group to put together a chant that included a positive message about working as a team. All groups enjoyed working together as they put their group chant together. After showing our chants to our class we then voted for the best group chant as a syndicate. Once we agreed we all started learning the chant together which helped us get into the spirit of participating and contribiting as a TEAM which also helped us prepare for camp.

For Reading we have been learning about Biosecurity, and from my understanding I think Biosecurity is defined as a security which helps protects us from pests, diseases and unwanted creatures. Biosecurity is very important to New Zealand and we need it so the human population in Aotearoa don't get sick! Biosecurity - Follow Up Questions!

What is biosecurity?

Biosecurity is a security that helps us to keep us  protected from diseases, pests and
unwanted creatures. Without Biosecurity we would have a lot of diseases spreading around
and they would be affecting our agriculture, our health and even our human population!

Why is it important to protect our environment?

It is very important to our environment to have biosecurity because since we already have our
native animals, plants and fungi we have to keep those things safe. We now have a few
predators on our land which has made New Zealand more unique; unfortunately this also
means that our species don’t have as much of defence as they should which causes some
diseases, infections and pests to come onto the border.

Explain 2 different kind of technology of technology involved with Biosecurity.

The first kind of technology we use which is involved with Biosecurity is a scanner. We us a
scanner to detect whether or not a certain person or yourself is carrying a certain disease
with them that could affect others.

One other type of Technology you can use people use within biosecurity is a microscope; You
use a microscope to look inside of the little disease's inside the blood that they take out of
an/some animal(s) with a syringe with a needle. This is how they see if their are diseases
in animals.

🐟Fish Pie - Cooking🐟

Another Thursday has arrived and now its time for a few students to learn how to cook a new delicious meal at the Tamaki College Technology programme. Today the Cooking class had made a Fish pie. At first I was not that appealed but as I read the recipe I thought it would be nice! Today I had a different buddy and it was none other than one of y new friends, Fine! I was really excited to work with someone new and I thought it would be a great idea to work with Fine since she is my new friend and I am trying to get to know a bit more about the people in my class.

Here is the recipe:

1. Peel the Potatoes and then wash

2. Put in boiling hot water on oven

3. Once soften, sift the water from the potatoes from the pan into sink

4. Then put potatoes in baking bowl and mash

5. Make the mashed potatoes the base and put a mixture of Tuna, Mayo and Creamed mushrooms onto the potatoe base.

6. Add cheese on top and bake at 200℃ for 15 minutes.

7. Take out and enjoy!

Food Technology Reflection by Akanesi

Fakalofa Lahi Atu and greetings to you all...

WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG!

So as always, KIA MANAWANUI have Technology every Thursday at Tamaki College and each group gets a 8 or 9 sessions of doing the Tech at the college - so there's Cooking, Graphics, and Hard Materials. My FAVOURITE one is Cooking because not only do we cook but we also get to eat the delicious/sometimes yuck food we make as long as we follow instructions carefully.

By the way - ONLY year 7 & 8's get to go to Technology at Tamaki College like the other school in the Manaiakalani Cluster so at first, it will be SO cool then as the next year comes ... it will still be cool but not as exciting as before because how it was your first time the year before (Year 7).

But anyways, we cooked Tuna Fish Pie! There was a recipe for that and a recipe of a Chocolate Cake on the board ... to be honest, I was REALLY hoping we would make Chocolate Cake but then I realised we won't since we made Chocolate Muffins last week but still, I wasn't too excited to make Tuna Fish Pie!

Ingredients: 

Tuna Fish
Mayonaise
Mushroom Sauce
Potatoes
Shredded Cheese



Here is the Recipe :

Kiwisport - Term 4 - by Akih

Flag Football - KiwiSport!

Today in Kia Manawanui Syndicate we finally have kiwi sport!

 This is the first time we have kiwi sport for Term 4. For our kiwi sport we had flag football, what I could say is that, rugby and flag football is the same. We walked into the field where 2 coaches were, their names were Coach Will and Coach Carl. So we had to be in a circle and they taught us how to jog then jump which is called chopping on the spot, so what u have to do is when they call out? (I forgot) u have to jump then jug again as fast as u can, for me I think that was like our team chant or something which is I don't know..  

After that they teaches us how to hold the ball,how to catch and throw, before they teaches us, the girls and boys has to be splited up in half, then three girls has to line up in one of the cone and same for the boys but it has to be four boys in one cone unlike the girls it's three because it was an even number, the girls was in the right side and the boys was in the left side. Also I forgot to mention that both sides had one coach, so in the girls group we had Coach Will and in the boys group they had Coach Carl. So one person has to be a the front and 2 person has to be at back which is Edith and Coralee, and so the team. After that two coaches started to teach us how to hold the ball, how to catch and throw.  

First they taught us how to throw the ball and hold the ball. For me it was very challenging because how the bottom of the ball or the point has to face the front to have a good and high throw, for me it was very challenging but as I tried and tried I started to find it easy and the coaches also helped us by looking how we throw. For a couple of while it started to rain at first we ignored but then it started to rain more and more so that's when we headed inside the hall. The coaches we're worried because of how small the space but they solved it out. So we continued learning how to throw the ball and hold the ball.

 About 5 minutes or 6 minutes later we we're learning how to catch the ball, I found it more challenging but I tried my best. Me and Edith swapped places because she saw having difficulties to learn catching the ball and she was a good mate, so we continued. I saw another girl team and they we're really good at catching,throwing and holding the ball, I was very impressed by how they show teamwork. What I could say about my group is that we all tried our best and we didn't complain about how we throw,catch or hold the ball. 

Our lesson was done but we still had 3 minutes or 4 minutes left? So we decided to play a game of football. What I loved about playing the game is that they where no out's and u can throw the ball as how u throw to be. One of the coaches saw that it wasn't raining outside so played the game outside but only 2 rounds of game, then the rain has come back again, so we have to be at the hall again. Also the coaches had to even the teams and playing the game was like netball because when u have the ball u can't run or walk u have to throw to someone. What I found difficult playing the game is my height because I'm short and lots of my classmates are tall and fast but my friend cheered me up, so I cheered myself up.

WALA: Our Technological world

Our Inquiry topic for this term is about our Technological world, so far we have learnt about what technology is, the different technologies we can use to make abstract art and the differences between the technology in the past and now.



Me and my partner for Inquiry (Stephney) decided to choose to work on Phone technology, we choose to work on How Phones have changed over time. We decided to create a google drawing explaining how phones have changed over time.
