Life as Pie by Auckland

WALT: express my daily activities as percentages of a day and represent them in a pie chart.

Today, we had to find the fraction we spend doing various activities during the day. So my denominator is 24 as this represents the amount of hours in a day and the numerator will be how many hours you spend doing the activities.

Here is my activities and how many hours I spend doing them.

The next thing I did was turn these into fractions. After that I convert them into percentages. For example turn them into fractions the Denominator will be 24 and the activity will be the numerator . 7/24

Next to turn them into percentages. You have to do...
 7/24 x 100/1 / 24  =29.16

Now heres all the percentages turned into a pie chart.

๐Ÿ“‹✊๐ŸฝGrowth Mindset Quote✊๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ“‹ by Falakika

Kia Ora, welcome to my blog!

I have chosen 2 growth mindset quotes to share with you all. What stands out to me in the 1st quote is that if you're eager to learn no one can interfere with that because it is something you've put your mind/focus into.

What I learnt from the 2nd quote is that you shouldn't give up if you feel like a lot of weight is on you, instead you should overcome that feeling.

Here are two quotes I chose:
"If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you."

"don't give up when the pressure mounts.
FACE YOUR DOUBTS. MASTER YOUR FEARS."

I hope that you enjoyed by post about mindsets _____________________________________________________________________________

Vocabulary Tasks - Part 2 by Lily

Talofa lava readers and welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be blogging about my second and last tasks about the vocabulary! So in this task its about my paragraph that I have to put 3 words into one paragraph!

Anyways here is my writing! Pentathlon has something to do with having five parts. So, in sports there will be 5 different events, for example (which is Fencing, Freestyle swimming, Show jumping, Pistol shooting and Cross Country). The athletes are very inspirational because they encourage younger children to play one of the sports so that they could be better in the future.

This year the pentathlon is cancelled due to the Worldwide Pandemic as in the COVID-19. It's very sad that people don't get to watch the pentathlon since they're such big fans to see their favourite athletes playing in the pentathlon and I'm very excited for next year to do the pentathlon sports !

Deep dive into good and bad sugar

What is sugar?

Sugar is sucrose, a molecule composed of 12 atoms of carbon, 22 atoms of hydrogen, and 11 atoms of oxygen (C12H22O11). Like all compounds made from these three elements, sugar is a carbohydrate. It’s found naturally in most plants, but especially in sugarcane and sugar beets—hence their names.

The Mathemagicians are at it again!

Enter the radius, diameter, circumference or area of a Circle to find the other three. The calculations are done "live":
The Formula to find the area of a Circle is ...
- Radius , Squared X PI

If the Diameter is 1 cm , that means the radius is .5 cm
- .5 squared is .25
Next you do is .25 x PI
0.78539816339
And that is how you get an area of a Circle.

What's your opinion?

Part of writing portfolio for this term is to do a persuasive text. Our group really struggled to choose a topic but we eventually settled for why fitness is important. We are still in phase 2 of our planning and value any feedback that you may have for us. Do you think that we hit the mark? Is fitness still relevant today? Please leave a comment that will help our group improve on our concept.

Predator Free 2050 by Josephine

85 million years ago NZ was one of the first countries to split apart from Gondwanaland. Gondwanaland is when all the land in the whole Earth was together in one big country - they split up and became the continents. This meant that the only mammals NZ has, either swan here or flew here.

Because NZ is an island with no mammals, the birds, insects etc became defenceless (because they had no predators to hide from). Maori and Europeans settlers killed lots of animals, and brought with them predators from other countries (for example possums, rats, stoats, dogs).

Those predators brought here by settlers, have destroyed our native birds/plants. NZ has one of the worst extinction records of any nation in the world.

NZ has been trying to control the pests by using traps, poisoning but it hasn’t really worked. We need to work together to control the pests.

It is everyone’s responsibility to control pests and protect native species - all New Zealanders.

Let's keep the dream alive for a safe and predator free New Zealand 2050!

Super Rugby Aotearoa starts with a bang by Auckland

Over the weekend New Zealand became the first country in the world to restart live sport with two rugby games. In the first game, the Highlanders upset the Chiefs to record a 28-27 victory. The game came to life in the final 10 minutes with the Chiefs taking the lead and then having it snatched from them in the final minute.

To add to the twist, the winning drop goal was scored by Bryn Gatland, the son of the opposition coach, Warren Gatland. In the Sunday game, the Blues proved too strong for the Hurricanes. In front of the full stadium at Eden Park, the Blues won 30-20 in a pulsating game that had 4 lead changes in the first 20 minutes.
This is going to be an interesting Super Rugby Season. Who do you think will win the championship this year?

Current Events by Timote

Today we used Bloom's Taxonomy to summarise a current event. I found this helpful because it allowed me to break the reading passage up into various parts without it being too much. Using Bloom's is easier than using Solo Taxonomy and much quicker as well.  Hope you find this type of presentation useful. Let me know what you think!

Biography Writing by Isaia

WALA: What a biography is

biography is a true story about someone's life. Biographies tell about famous people, or ordinary people who have done exciting things. They usually about a person's life and how they have contributed to the world.

I did my research about Tupac. Tupac Shakur was embroiled in a feud between East Coast and West Coast rappers and was murdered in a drive-by shooting in 1996, leaving behind an influential musical legacy at the age of 25.

Exploring Genomics

What am I?
Homo sapiens is the only extant human species. The name is Latin for wise man, and was introduced in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus. Extinct species of the genus Homo include Homo erectus and a number of other species.

What is a Ape?
Apes are a branch of Old World tailless simians native to Africa and Southeast Asia. They are the sister group of the Old World monkeys, together forming the catarrhine clade.

Good or Bad by Lily and Vaiola

Yeoboseyo readers and welcome back to my blog ! Today I'll be blogging a late post about Is sugar Good or Bad...?? The scientists are still unsure but most says its bad for us but why.? Well I tell you everything me & my buddy Vaiola has done a short information report about Sugar ! This is all the information we could get and know and I really hope that you can learn more from this !

What is sugar ?  Sugar is a carbohydrate consisting of glucose molecule and fructose molecule, also known as sucrose. Sucrose is made out of sugar cane and sugar beet. It is also founded in some natural foods like fruits and Honey.

What happens to sugar in our bodies ? When we eat sugar it is digested in the small intestine where an enzyme named sucrase splits the bond between the glucose and fructose molecule, these molecules then get sent to the lever.

Why is sugar good for you ? Well it seems like sugar is good for you because it provides energy because of the fruits and that is why we should always eat the natural sugar instead of adding more sugar so that is why natural sugar is good for you remember that.

Why is sugar bad for you ? Well it’s said in research that sugar is a very made nutrients, Well you know why it's bad because we abuse our bodies with adding sugar intake not using the natural sugar so it makes sense why sugar is bad for you and it can cause of diabetes
I swapped sugar for 'good' fats ... and soon had to tighten my belt

Properties of a circle by Room 9

There are two other important distances on a circle, the radius (r) and the diameter (d). The radius, the diameter, and the circumference are the three defining aspects of every circle. Given the radius or diameter and pi you can calculate the circumference. The diameter is the distance from one side of the circle to the other at its widest points. The diameter will always pass through the center of the circle. The radius is half of this distance. You can also think of the radius as the distance between the center of the circle and its edge.

This diagram shows the circumference, diameter, center, and radius on a circle.
If a circle has a diameter of 10cm, what is its circumference?

We know that C = ฯ€d. Since the diameter is 10cm, we know that C = ฯ€ x 10cm = 31.42cm (to 2 decimal places).

Symmetry Explained by Raymond

Hi guys, today is a very short blog post about symmetry.

Symmetry is basically when a shape or object has two completely identical sides that are either facing each other or are around an axis.

line of symmetry is the line that divides the two identical parts, each part being a mirror reflection of the other

I did a before and after screenshot of the activity. I think the most difficult part was lining up the line segments. All in all a very easy, straight forward explanation. Please let me know what you think about this activity.
